Educational Model

Métodos de Enseñanza

The educational model of the Iberoamerican University Foundation (FUNIBER) is a comprehensive proposal that combines the best practices of face-to-face and distance education. Its objective is to democratize access to multicultural higher education based on quality, relevance, and international cooperation based on solidarity through university networks.

This model is the result of the foundation's experience in more than 28 years of teaching, offering academic programs with university degrees in both face-to-face and distance learning modalities:  master's degrees, specializations, doctorates, and bachelor's degrees. FUNIBER offers flexible, asynchronous learning opportunities tailored to the needs of each student, regardless of their geographic location or work commitment.

It also promotes an educational model that encourages and promotes a learning-to-learn process in a quality learning environment.

Rationale and Objectives

FUNIBER bases its educational model on the premise that everyone should have the opportunity to develop academically and professionally without their place of residence or work activity being an obstacle. This principle is aligned with UNESCO's World Declaration on Education for the Twenty-First (Paris, 1998), which promotes multicultural, quality education oriented towards international cooperation and lifelong learning.

Thanks to information technology (IT), access to distance higher education in various areas of knowledge is facilitated through FUNIBER's International University Network. Universities are constantly updating and adapting their educational offerings to current challenges to respond to the new challenges of the global professional environment.

Educational and Pedagogical Innovation

FUNIBER's educational model is based on essential principles that strengthen autonomous, asynchronous, and collaborative learning within an international academic environment of excellence. The foundation believes that true education transcends the mere acquisition of knowledge. It implies the ability to manage learning in an autonomous, critical, and responsible manner. The student takes the lead role in their own development. The learn-to-learn method becomes an essential competence to adapt to today's professional, academic, and social environment.

Flexibility and asynchrony are concrete manifestations of the pedagogical innovation of the foundation's model. This approach is based on several essential principles:

  • Multidirectional interaction: fostering constant exchange between scholarship holders, professors, and tutors, favoring communication that is enriching and dynamic.
  • Collaborative learning: knowledge is conceived as a collective process, based on cooperation and reciprocity among participants.
  • Student protagonism: scholarship holders assume an active role in their education, developing autonomy and responsibility in their learning.
  • Commitment and perseverance: dedication and sustained effort are promoted as necessary conditions to achieve academic objectives.
  • Motivation as a driving force: learning is driven by encouragement and the perception that the proposed achievements are attainable.
  • Learning personalization: individual differences and different ways of learning are recognized, adapting the training process to each student's characteristics and needs.

FUNIBER promotes autonomous learning—it, however, also offers personalized support to scholarship holders throughout their training process in the more than 35 operational countries.

Face-to-Face and Distance Education Elements

FUNIBER's educational model harmoniously combines and complements elements of face-to-face and distance learning, forming a hybrid methodology that leverages the benefits of both modalities. This integration responds to the demands of contemporary education, making it possible to offer flexible, asynchronous, personalized, and high-quality training adapted to the needs of each scholarship holder.

Integral Model Components

  • Printed study materials: scholarship holders receive high-quality printed study materials at home, prepared by distance education specialists. These carefully structured volumes allow learning to progress autonomously, without relying exclusively on technological tools, thus guaranteeing an equitable training process.
  • FUNIBER's Virtual Campus: it is an interactive space for academic and cultural encounters. Through this platform, scholarship holders can share experiences with other students from other countries and access the virtual repository, which brings together hundreds of theses developed at universities in the network, along with a large collection of digital resources that are continuously updated. The campus has specialized forums and chats that stimulate debate, critical reflection, and knowledge exchange.
  • Lectures and Face-to-Face Seminars: FUNIBER organizes meetings, lectures, and seminars presented by visiting professors, with the purpose of strengthening direct contact between professors and scholarship holders. These activities promote collaborative learning and contribute to the creation of international academic networks.
  • Personalized academic support: each scholarship holder has the constant support of an academic consultant who provides individualized follow-up throughout the training process. In addition, FUNIBER has an international network of tutors specialized in different areas of knowledge (called Global Knowledge Map) that enriches the educational experience through the participation of experts from different countries.
  • Tailored evaluation: the evaluation system is adjusted to the characteristics of each program and to the pedagogical objectives of the universities in the network. Exams can be taken virtually, in person, or by telephone, thus guaranteeing the flexibility of the process and the academic validity of the results in accordance with the requirements of each institution and country.

Distance Component

FUNIBER's distance educational model is designed to offer scholarship holders a flexible, accessible, and asynchronous study environment adapted to their personal and professional circumstances. This component makes it possible to reconcile academic training with work and family responsibilities, without sacrificing quality and ongoing support.

Its main features include:

  • Time flexibility: the scholarship recipient can organize their study time according to their needs, removing the limitations of fixed schedules.
  • Access without travel: training can take place from any geographical location, avoiding the need to travel and facilitating participation from any country.
  • Continuous academic monitoring: the training process is constantly monitored through the Virtual Campus and a personalized curriculum planning, which guarantees adequate guidance at each stage.
  • Individualized learning pace: the model adapts to the personal, family, and work reality of each student, allowing them to progress at their own pace without diverting from the program's objectives.
  • Practical knowledge application: contents are designed so that scholarship holders can immediately apply what they learn in their professional environment, thus strengthening the connection between theory and practice.

Specialized Pedagogical Design

The study material has been carefully structured following a logical order that facilitates the progressive understanding of the contents. All topics are mutually coordinated to ensure a gradual assimilation of key concepts.

The layout has been specially designed for distance education, with a visual approach that includes a clear and precise writing style, frequent explanatory tables, summaries of the most important points of each unit, and individual and group self-assessment exercises.

This pedagogical design integrates individual learning developed in the student's environment with the collaborative dimension of the Virtual Campus, thus promoting a complete and balanced learning experience.

Face-to-Face Component

The face-to-face component of FUNIBER's educational model provides solidity and differential value to its educational proposal, offering scholarship holders a space of accompaniment and trust that transcends a virtual context. Its main features include:

  • Personalized consultancy: it offers scholarship holders the possibility of resolving any question that may arise during the course of the program. This service offers both face-to-face and distance support, allowing the learning process to be adapted to individual needs, with the support of consultants specialized in each area.
  • Visiting professors: lectures and seminars are given by visiting professors in the many countries of the network, strengthening contact between countries and reinforcing the international dimension of student training.
  • Collaborative pedagogical approach: the program goes beyond the simple delivery of content, incorporating pedagogical strategies aimed at fostering collaborative learning between scholarship holders and tutors. Its training model is based on a dynamic and constructivist approach to learning, which promotes critical reflection and the exchange of ideas. For this purpose, methodologies close to action-research are used, which are developed in interactive and multicultural contexts that enrich the educational experience.

The educational methodology that FUNIBER has promoted for more than 28 years has enabled the institutions of its university network to successfully face new challenges within the sector, constantly maintaining high quality standards and a firm commitment to academic excellence.

This comprehensive model reflects FUNIBER's commitment to educational innovation, combining the best of face-to-face and virtual learning to offer a unique learning experience that overcomes geographical and time barriers, facilitating access to quality higher education for scholarship holders from all over the world.
