It is unquestionable that any work activity implies a risk to workers. This reality has created a new business need, one that requires compliance with a specific set of increasingly stringent obligations on the employer’s part.
Such obligations are based on a set of specific rules and regulations that are determined by the highest level of an organization, and are gradually incorporated in each country being gradually adjusted at the local level.
An increasing social demand for regulation and surveillance of safety and health, compounds the interest of organizations, whatever their size, to install a safety management and occupational health system that allows them to manage risk and comply with the law.
It is in this aspect that the Master in Occupational Risk Prevention becomes an excellent instrument for the development of safety training and an improved state of health, thanks to the accumulated experience and teaching in this field.
The distance education program presented here responds to the new demands of this area, providing criteria, rigor and, above all, common sense, when it comes to education in the policy on health and safety organization.
Who is the programme for?
The proposed method and a clear and diverse curriculum makes the Master in Occupational Risk Prevention Program designed for university graduates with a bachelor’s degree who wish to receive training in occupational health and safety to improve their job prospects.
It is mainly designed for people who come from the fields of engineering, medicine, architecture, chemistry, psychology, labor relations, nursing, among other, and all those professions directly related to Prevention, Occupational Health, Production, Human Resources, Engineering, Quality departments, etc.
Diploma
Successful completion of the Program will enable you to be awarded the degree in Master in Occupational Risk Prevention.
After successfully completing the Program, the student will receive the degree as awarded by the University where they have enrolled.
Program Structure
The credit structure of the Master in Occupational Risk Prevention program is shown in the following table. It should be noted that the duration is merely indicative, as the methodology followed integrates the knowledge and skills to be acquired in each part through integrative exercises of knowledge acquisition and internalization of project practices:

a. The equivalence in credits may vary according to the university where he/she has enrolled. One (1) ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) credit is equivalent to 10 + 15 hours. If the student is enrolled in a university that does not belong to the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), the relation between credits - hours may vary.
Duration
The Master in Occupational Risk Prevention has 90 credits.
The duration of the Master in Occupational Risk Prevention varies between 12 and 24 months, depending on the student's dedication. In this period of time, the student must have successfully passed all the evaluated activities and approved the Final Project.
Objectives
General objective
To train competent professionals to implement a safety and health policies that call for the creation and maintenance of a culture that encourages the prevention of work related accidents and occupational illnesses.
Specific objectives
- To study fundamental safety concepts and to become familiar with techniques used in accident prevention.
- To learn how to act in favor of prevention, based on methods that are currently active or those established prior to the specific accident:
- Risk assessment as an active technique.
- Types of risk assessments.
- Methods of general risk assessment.
- Measures to be taken after risk assessment.
- To study actions dedicated to the identification, evaluation and control of chemical, physical and biological agents in the workplace that can cause illness.
- To examine common health problems caused in the workplace from an ergonomics point of view.
- To determine organizational job factors that can affect workers´ health and welfare (physical, psychological and social), as well as job performance itself.
- To acquire basic knowledge, purpose and activities of Occupational Medicine.
- To become familiar with the training needs in occupational risks of different groups of companies and organizations.
- To understand the most common theoretical and practical aspects of conflict resolution and strategies: negotiation, mediation and arbitration.
- To lay the groundwork for the implementation of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards in business.

Study Plan
The Master in Occupational Risk Prevention Program has a curriculum structure based on three sequential parts:
- 1st PART: OCCUPATIONAL RISK PREVENTION
The first part teaches the theoretical, conceptual and historical foundations involved in the prevention of occupational hazards and also organizational, social and technological implementation.
The goal is for students to gain an overview of prevention, through different multidisciplinary related topics.

These subjects, despite being independent from each other, are self-sufficient and structured according to a consistent pedagogical sequence that facilitates their understanding from simple to increasing complexity. Each subject is divided into basic thematic units or chapters, the contents of which include printed material to be studied in order to satisfactorily answer the tests.
- 2nd PART: SPECIALIZATION
Specializations allow students to go more in depth in those areas of the field of prevention that interest them most both professionally and personally.
Students must choose only one of the following specializations:

Research Methods presents the process and technique stages of research for students to learn an approach to the scientific method in order to make contributions to the field. It also reviews the main tools that help test hypotheses by providing statistical support for the observations.
On the other hand, in order to obtain a Master in Occupational Risk Prevention, a Final Project is required. The objective is to present a comprehensive document, including the possibility of its practical implementation. It should be a contribution to the field or to related topics, both theoretical and applied.
