Program Presentation

The Doctorate in Law, Economics and Business promotes, through rigorous and advanced training, legal research in the economic and business fields. The academic program is designed to train professors, researchers and professionals who are qualified to respond to the global realities, complex and changing needs of the business-economic regulations at a national and international level.

The Doctorate program allows to take subjects and perform the Doctorate research within one of the lines of research that are offered, in accordance with an on-line education model. In this way, the Doctorate student takes part of an advanced postgraduate study that can adapt to one’s learning pace and working style.

During the program, the Doctorate student will have the support and advice of professors, tutors and thesis directors who will ease the learning and academic performance in the subjects, research papers, and in the thesis thanks to the new technologies.

Structure

Phase I: Introductory Courses
The student will take the subjects Scientific Research Methodology and Research Seminar. These subjects enable the student to acquire the necessary knowledge on the main tools used for scientific research and to be familiar with the general guidelines for preparing a Doctorate thesis.
Phase II: Modular Courses
This phase is divided into two sections:
Compulsory Modules

This section includes the subjects corresponding to the Scientific Methodology Module on Law. The student will take these subjects: Research Method in Comparative Law; Methodology, Interpretation and Reasoning for Advanced Legal Research; Contemporary Legal Thinking; and•Legal Logic.

Through an advanced teaching, the student will consolidate knowledge on legal logic, reasoning and research techniques, developing competencies and skills needed for working in the business or educational field.

Elective Modules
The student must choose a line of research in this second phase of the Doctorate program.
  • Line of research in Economic Law
    The Doctorate training in economic law wants to guide the student to a further reflection on the current economic system and the necessary involvement of the legal research applied to economics. The Doctorate thesis, in this line of research, pursues that the student focuses the research on the resolution and satisfaction of specific needs, taking into account the scarcity of resources, equity and justice, as to carry out a Doctorate project that promotes the social, economic, corporate and financial regulation. In this module, the student will take these subjects: Financial Management, International Economic Law, Economic Analysis of Law and Finance and International Taxation.
  • Line of research in Business Law
    The line of research in business law seeks to ensure that the student develops an analytical reflection on the company’s situation in the globalized world, as well, the student should contextualize its elements and resources. The legal research in this area is part of the business operators and agents’ work, looking for profitability, sustainability and competitiveness of the business projects while promoting a general social welfare and a sustainable development. In this module, the student will take these subjects: Business Management and Administration, Legal Aspects of the Business, International Contracts and Business Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility.
Phase III: Research
In this phase, the student will take the subjects of Research Work I, Research Work II and Doctorate Thesis’ Proposal. This phase will be developed with the constant advice of the Thesis Director, in order to collect the relevant information so that the project is made with rigor and efficiency.
Phase IV: Doctorate Thesis’ development
Finally, in the development phase of the Doctorate Thesis, the student will take two subjects: Doctorate Thesis’ Development and Doctorate Thesis’ Dissertation. During this phase, the candidate will draw up the Doctorate thesis and will be able to argue and defend logically and systematically the results of the research to a group of doctors who are specialists in the field.

Educational Methodology

The educational model promotes collaboration and cooperation to enhance people’s education. This ensures a process that provides effective results with regard to the educational investment assumed versus the return in knowledge, personal and organizational learning. Nowadays, the educational model consists of many educational and pedagogical innovations that facilitate, strengthen and drive a formative process in a quality learning environment. This includes:

  • Making it easy for students, professors and both groups to be in contact.

  • Considering the student as the center of the learning process in which the student actively participates.
  • Encouraging and promoting the continuous communication and interaction between professors and students.
  • Instilling that the training process implies and requires temporary dedication and continuous effort.
  • Using motivation as a constant stimulus so the student perceives that the expected learning results are achievable.
  • Personalizing the learning, taking into account the differences between students and their different ways of learning.

Diploma

The Doctorate student who meets the academic requirements and passes the Doctorate thesis’ defense in accordance with the rules of the universities which offer the Doctorate program, will get the following diploma:

  • DOCTORATE IN LAW, ECONOMICS AND BUSINESS in the International Iberoamerican University (Mexico), indicating the line of research of the thesis.
